Reborn From Oblivion

Chapter 499

The neon lights were especially dazzling at midnight, casting a vibrant glow over the bustling night market in the Capital. It was Cameron's first time visiting the market, and he was immediately drawn to the myriad of stalls showcasing all sorts of figurines. He crouched down, carefully inspecting each one until he found a true gem-a little white rabbit. He remembered that Nina's zodiac sign was the rabbit, and it seemed like the perfect gift.

He made sure the stall owner wrapped it with extra care before he headed home with the gift box tucked under his arm. By the time Cameron walked through the door, it was already past ten at night. To his surprise, Greta was still up, sitting alone on the couch in the living room, waiting for him. Cameron greeted her with a cool expression. "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

Greta stood up and moved towards him, gently taking his package, helping him shed his coat, and even bending down to change his shoes. "Cameron," she said softly, "I've been thinking for a long time. Our marriage wasn't easy to come by, and it seems foolish to act rashly. If there's trouble between us, we should work on fixing it, not throwing in the towel."

Cameron kept quiet, and it was hard to tell if her humble attempt to reconcile had any effect on him.

Continuing, Greta said, "I know I've been spoiled by my father and haven't been the kind, considerate wife I should be. But I can change; I can learn to be a good wife. I'll cook and clean if that's what it takes, as long as you're willing."

Still, Cameron said nothing, and Greta's face fell further as her efforts met with silence. "Cameron, are you really going to give up on me?" she asked, her voice trembling.

After what seemed like an eternity, Cameron finally spoke, his voice barely above a whisper, "Our love has faded. Nothing you do can change that."

Greta's eyes welled up with tears. Cameron gently nudged her aside and headed upstairs without another word.

In his room, he placed the gift box on the nightstand and slipped into the bathroom. Greta followed him and noticed the beautifully wrapped box, its sparkling exterior hinting at a special gift inside. Her heart sank with suspicion.

Convinced that Cameron was seeing someone else, panic and insecurity washed over her. She couldn't bear the thought of being cast aside. With determination, she picked up the gift box, tore off the tape, and opened it.

Inside, she found a rabbit dressed in

a pink gown, adorned with a

diamond necklace. Jealousy flared within her Cameron had been complaining about money, giving

her barely enough for essentials, yet here he was, buying expensive

trinkets?

The sound of the shower stopped, and Cameron emerged, wrapped in a bathrobe. Greta stood there, still caught in the throes of her emotions. Seeing her with the gift, Cameron's temper flared like never before.

He snatched the figurine from her hands, making sure it was unharmed, and then turned to her with anger. "Who said you could come in here? Don't touch my things again."

Greta's composed demeanor shattered, and she yelled back, "What are you hiding, Cameron? You used to say what's yours is mine, that I could touch anything of yours." Cameron shot back, "That was then. This is now."

Tears streaming down her face,

Greta lunged for the figurine,

shouting, won't let you give gifts to another woman. It's not fair to me. Our money is shared, and if you're spending it on someone else, I'll take you to court for divorce."

In the struggle, the figurine slipped from their hands, crashing to the floor in pieces.noveldrama
