Remarriage You 483

Chapter 483 To Remarry

"The shares had been transferred a few days ago, and even if you were unaware of this, I wouldn't let Hattie be wronged."

Matthew gave a slight nod, stacking the two documents together and pushing them aside. "I'll accept your sincere gesture on behalf of Hattie."

Zachary smiled lightly. "As long as you're satisfied, that's all that matters."

"What do you think about Isla?" Matthew asked casually, lifting his coffee and taking a sip.

After Isla recounted the events the previous day, he suggested reporting Zachary to the police and holding him accountable. However, Isla stopped him, hesitatingly stating that Zachary was also a victim and didn't intentionally cause harm.

Matthew observed that Isla seemed to have some feelings for Zachary. Upon realizing he was the father of the child from years ago, she decided to return and acknowledge the child.

If Zachary were still unmarried, without a love interest, it wouldn't be a bad match at all.

However, he had already been married once before. His entanglement with his ex-wife suggested that they were considering getting remarried.

Hence, Matthew didn't hold much hope.

"All right, then. I'll just say it outright. Isla is naive and carefree, spoiled and prideful, as if she's been pampered by her family all her life. I've only ever regarded her as a sister."

"Given the circumstances, it's best to swiftly resolve the problem and not give her any false hope."

"I've never given her any false hope. However, the situation isn't within my control. She's Hattie's mother, so how could I possibly prevent her from seeing Hattie?"

Matthew paused, his gaze lowered in thought. "I want to discuss with you about the custody of Hattie."

Zachary's expression remained calm. "I don't see a need for further discussion. Whether it's from an adult's perspective or considering Hattie's wishes, the custody should stay with me."

He paused for a moment before continuing, "You're familiar with Isla's nature... She's still a child herself. How could she possibly take care of Hattie? Even before I knew Hattie's identity, I had already adopted her. Now that I know she's my biological daughter, I'll only love her even more. From Hattie's perspective, she relies heavily on me and is reluctant to follow Isla."

Matthew naturally understood Isla's personality.

Earlier in the living room, Matthew could tell Harrietta was quite unfamiliar with Isla.

"However, you know that Isla is only staying in Jacaster under the pretext of Hattie. If you were to give her custody of Hattie, she would have no reason to stay in Jacaster."

Therefore, Isla had also mentioned the day before that it would be best if Zachary retained custody.

She didn't want custody of Harrietta. She merely sought an excuse to get closer to Zachary.

If she couldn't get the man, she wouldn't want a child to become her burden.

"She's only acknowledged Hattie because of me, not out of maternal love. If Hattie stays with her, it won't end well," Zachary said.

He had indeed considered what Matthew had said. However, since Harrietta was his daughter, he couldn't just abandon her because it was inconvenient.

Upon hearing this, Matthew sighed. "How does Lenora treat Hattie? Does Hattie like her?"

"Don't worry. Hattie really likes Nora. Just a couple of days ago, she even ran out of school to find her, giving us quite a scare."

"Oh? What happened?" Matthew raised an eyebrow.

Zachary then gave a brief account of the matter.

Matthew let out a sigh after hearing Zachary's words.

Isla was willful, doing things purely based on her preferences. She even went to the kindergarten to look for Harrietta, causing others to gossip about her. Harrietta couldn't possibly like Isla.

"You and Lenora are both still young. What will you do when you have your own children?" Matthew was unaware of Lenora's state of health. He could only speculate based on what he knew to be normal.

"Don't worry. They are all my children, so I will certainly treat them all equally. With you as her great-uncle, how could I possibly allow her to be wronged?"

"Let's keep the child with you for now. We can discuss this further when she's a bit older." Matthew tapped his finger on the table. "Have you and Lenora remarried?"noveldrama

"Not yet."

"Unless there are other circumstances, get remarried as soon as possible."

Matthew wanted Isla to give up on Zachary.

Zachary lowered his gaze, letting out a sigh. "It's not that simple. Nora initially wanted to remarry me, but this incident has caused a rift between us. I'm afraid the chance of us getting back together is now slim..." Matthew wanted Lenora to act as a cover.

At that moment, Zachary's remarriage to Lenora would be akin to walking straight into Isla's line of fire.

Isla wouldn't hurt him, but she might find another way to target Lenora.

She was pregnant and couldn't handle any turmoil.

Matthew remained silent.

"Mr. Xenos, if you don't want Isla to waste her time on me, you ought to persuade her. Perhaps suggest that she return to Fairlake to clear her mind."

Zephyr also advocated for sending Isla back to Fairlake.

"Allow me some time to think," Matthew said.

After finishing lunch, Harrietta bid farewell to Matthew and the others.

Originally, Isla had intended to seize this opportunity to leave with them. However, Matthew and Zephyr, each more astute than the other, had seen through Isla's intentions and intercepted her. Isla was livid.

After getting into the car, Harrietta rubbed her round belly and began to open the monetary gifts, counting each one.

"Hattie, do you like your great-uncle and great-aunt?"

"Yes. I like them." Without even lifting her head, Harrietta continued to count money. A thought crossed her mind, and she said, "I don't like Uncle Zephyr."

It seemed as though Zephyr had a strong dislike for Zachary, always opposing him. Consequently, she also developed a distaste for Zephyr.

Zachary was rendered speechless.

"I will bring you to see them more often in the future."

"All right." Harrietta seemed to have thought of something, chuckling as she said, "Mr. Security Guard at the entrance of Great-uncle Matthew's residential area is quite impressive!" Zachary chuckled.

That wasn't a security guard. It was a National Guard.

"Hattie, how about we go find Aunt Lenora now?"

"All right!"

Zachary drove toward Nova Residences.

At that moment, Lenora was at the police station.

Although Susanna had passed away, the testimonies and some newly discovered evidence were more than enough to establish her guilt.

If Susanna were still around, perhaps they could have gleaned some information from her. However, since she had died, the investigation could only go so far.

As for the cause of her death, the coroner's conclusion was that it wasn't a case of homicide. She had taken her own life by violently striking her head against the wall. The police concluded it as a suicide driven by guilt.

At this point, the case was about to be closed.

When Lenora went to seek Gordon to investigate the two drivers who had rear-ended her that day, there was no outcome. It seemed as if it was truly just an accident. Lenora knew that Benedict had done his best. She expressed her gratitude and left the police station.

Summer emerged from the interrogation room.

They hadn't seen each other in a long time, and she appeared significantly worn out. Her eyes were deeply set, her complexion pale and waxy Her cheekbones were sharply pronounced, and there was a chilling aura in her gaze.

She lowered her gaze, fixating on her protruding belly for a few moments before she began to walk away.

As the street cleaning lady was

backing up while sweeping, she

She quickly turned around

to apologize, "I'm so sorry! I'm Really sorry I hope I didn't hurt you

Upon realizing she was interacting with a pregnant woman, the street cleaning lady's concern grew, and her chatty nature was sparked. "How far along are you? Is it a boy or a girl?" she asked.

en

Summer glanced at her own belly and lifted her head to fix her gaze on the street cleaning lady.

Much like being targeted by a venomous snake, the street cleaning lady shuddered, quickly trying to smooth things over. "It must be a chubby boy, right?" she asked. Summer didn't respond to that.

She cast a gloomy glance at the street cleaning lady, didn't utter a single word, and boarded the bus at the roadside.

If not for the fact that she was out on bail awaiting trial at that time and couldn't afford any more slip-ups, she would have strangled that woman.
