Chapter 1531
Harvey handed the phone back to Linden. "Some of this is true, but most of it is pure nonsense. This person is even more shameless than I imagined!"
Linden and Dale exchanged glances at the mention of truth and lies intertwining.
Seeing the anger on Harvey's face, they realized the situation was more complicated than it seemed. In today's world, people loved to sit on their moral high horses, especially when the situation didn't affect them personally.
From behind their keyboards, they acted self-righteous, quick to pass judgment. Yet, they never considered how it would feel to be on the receiving end of such scrutiny.
"Is the sick girl really your sister?"
Harvey snorted coldly. "I only have one elder sister. I don't have a younger sister."
Skylar was the first to get the news. Paul had specifically called to update her.
"They've hired a lot of reporters to create a moral narrative. They think that since both Charles and Harvey are public figures, they won't be able to withstand the pressure. They've even spent money to make it viral."
Skylar took a deep breath. "Can we suppress the trending topics?"
Paul answered firmly, "We can, but the damage has already started. Even if we suppress them, Charles and Harvey will still face backlash. Steven is likely to be affected as well.
"There are already people causing trouble at Steven's workplace, and Charles is currently filming a variety show. Someone there is probably making it difficult for him, too. It's a live broadcast."
Upon hearing Paul's words, Skylar understood the situation was more complicated than expected. She carefully reviewed everything Finn and his current wife, Miriam Nicholson, had told reporters. Their statements painted a pitiful narrative from beginning to end.
They only mentioned their daughter being sick and needing Steven and the others to help with the compatibility test. They even kneeled before the reporters, asking for Steven's forgiveness.
They also claimed that their daughter was innocent and described her as kind and obedient.
What they didn't mention was asking for kidney donations.
Skylar immediately called Steven, but he didn't answer. Then she called Charles, but it was Freddie who picked up the phone.
Worried that the news might reach Janine, she quickly briefed her on the situation, assuring her that everything would be handled. Next, she called Harvey.
Harvey had matured significantly
and didn't lose his composure. "Skylar, don't worry about us. From the moment Finn came to us, I was prepared for this. Trying to guilt-trip us with moral coercion? They don't even deserve it."
Skylar replied directly, "Their daughter has kidney failure and needs a transplant."
Hearing this, Harvey exploded in anger. "What? Do they expect us to donate our kidneys? The audacity! A few days ago, Finn was going on and on about how it was just a small favor.
"Forget a kidney-I'm not even willing to donate bone marrow! A person can't live the same life after losing a kidney. Does he think we're idiots?" "I'm heading to the television station to check on Charles. You go see how Steven is doing," Skylar instructed calmly.
Harvey took a few deep breaths to calm his rage before responding, "Got it."
They split up to tackle the situation.
Meanwhile, Finn and Miriam went straight to the hotel upstairs to rest after their press conference. Both were utterly drained. Kneeling and putting on such a dramatic show in front of so many people had sapped a great deal of energy.
After washing her face and
scrubbing away the sticky remnants of fake tears, Miriam looked at Finn sitting silently on the couch. "You're starting to feel guilty, don't you? You're worried about your three sons, aren't you?" noveldrama
"I—" Finn began, lifting his head to speak.
Miriam cut him off. "They're all perfectly healthy, but our daughter is lying in a hospital bed, waiting for us to save her! We only have one option. If even one of them is a match, our daughter can be saved.
"It's just a kidney. It's not like we're asking for their lives. If buying one illegally wasn't impossible right now, do you think I'd bother with them? A kidney isn't worth much anyway. I'll give them several hundred thousand dollars afterward. That should more than cover it."
