Chapter 376
Dorian tugged at Evelina's sleeve, "You know, Mr. Alfred's pretty tight with my mom too. Do him a solid, will you?"
Hearing this, Evelina reluctantly bent down to gather the scattered papers.
Lemira glanced at Mr. Alfred, musing about the undeniable allure of power and influence. Good thing Thaddeus found such an amazing lawyer! Evelina, feeling wronged, picked up the papers and tossed them carelessly to Lemira, "Here."
Catching them, Lemira gave Evelina a look that was more mocking than amused.
That look was like a slap to Evelina's face. Was this woman actually laughing at her?
Infuriating!
Lemira grabbed the documents and strutted out.
Evelina stood there, her frustration boiling over into tears, "Asher, Lemira's being utterly unbearable."
Alaric, standing by with a mocking tone, said, "Weren't you the one who started this by knocking the files from Lemira's hands?"
"But, but I was only trying to help her."
"Help Lemira by knocking the files from her hands?"
Unable to respond to Alaric's accusation, Evelina just hung her head in defeat.
Asher intervened, "Alright, Alaric, no need to defend Lemira now. She didn't spare you earlier either."
Alaric managed a bitter smile, "My downfall is all on me. Asher, I just hope when you finally see people for who they truly are, you won't have regrets." With that, Alaric left.
Evelina sneaked a glance at Alaric. Given his current legal troubles and ruined career, he was of no use to her anymore.
She didn't see any point in maintaining a relationship with Alaric, preferring not to chase after someone who clearly didn't want her around.
Evelina, feeling downtrodden, asked, "Dorian, what's the deal with your cousin and Lemira?"
"I asked; he told me to mind my own business."
Just then, Dorian got a call from his mother, scolding him severely.
Hanging up, Dorian said, "My mom wants me back home ASAP. I gotta go."
Evelina, watching Dorian's mama's boy exit, was livid.
Asher, however, was puzzled, "Since when did Lemira get to know someone from the Draven family?"
Evelina remembered meeting Dorian's cousin in Lyria but hadn't made a good impression. She didn't dare tell Asher the truth.
So, Evelina tied, "I'm not sure.
Lemira's been sketchy since high school dating the school doctor while keeping things ambiguous with someone from the Draven family."
Asher was even more infuriated, "I can't believe her lifestyle is so
unchecked! It drives me crazy thinking she believes mingling with those heirs will turn her life around. As if she could ever marry into the Draven family."
Evelina's face stiffened at those words. Why couldn't she?
After all, she was Dorian's girlfriend, and he had promised to marry her.
Realizing his mistake, Asher quickly added, "Evelina, I wasn't talking about you."
"I know, Asher."
"After all, Dorian and Thaddeus a
different. Dorian doesn't have to inherit the Draven legacy, so you're in the clear. And I'll figure something outf you."
Evelina couldn't help but feel a sting of jealousy. Why was she any less than Lemira?
Just then, Asher's assistant approached, "Mr. Langston, we found out who owns the Maple Group." "Is it a Draven?"
"No, but Ms. Lemira's name is on the list of shareholders."noveldrama
Evelina, green with envy, speculated, "Asher, you don't think Thaddeus is keeping Lemira, do you?"
