Chapter 35
Chapter 35:
Nora got up and prepared to go out to greet the guest.
However, after taking a couple of steps, she saw that Henry and the others were still sitting with their noses in the air and making a show of arrogance. It was obvious they didn’t care about the guest.
She ignored them and walked straight out. At once, she saw an elegant and presentable middle-aged woman standing in the doorway.
The woman was well-groomed and wore an elegant long-sleeved dress. She looked like a beauty straight out of a painting, and there was a kind of serene, composed charm about her that could only be found in a cultured family.
Mrs. Lane, who held a disinfectant spray in her hands, thought at first that she would see a smelly, dirty country bumpkin enter. But she didn’t imagine the guest would look like that. For a moment, he didn’t even dare spray the disinfectant in his hand.
Melissa Anderson smiled kindly and said, “We meet again, Nora!”
Nora hadn’t expected to find her here. Quite surprised, she said, “You…”.
Melissa stepped forward a couple of steps quickly and held her hand. “This is fate, child! You saved your own uncle.”
Inside the house, Angela, who was itching to tease them, couldn’t wait any longer. When she saw the two talking at the door, she headed straight for it as she said, “Have you disinfected the place, Mrs. Lane? We shouldn’t let just any random person into the c…”
His words ended abruptly when he saw Melissa.
After a three-second pause, her voice instantly became much louder and she abruptly exclaimed, “You’re Nora’s aunt!”noveldrama
Hearing her reaction, Wendy and Henry also stood up and headed for the door.
Wendy whispered, “Angela is still too young and inexperienced. It’s because she’s never seen a townie before that she’s reacting so badly. Fuu-uu.”
With a smug look on her face, she straightened her back in silence.
When she married Henry back then, everyone had said she wasn’t as beautiful as his late wife, so she had held a huge grudge against him all these years. But now, at last, she could hold her head up high as far as family background was concerned.
He would show Nora’s poor relative what she was made of.
The next moment, she immediately saw Melissa.
Wendy came from an average family. When she married Henry, she was considered to have married someone of a higher social status. During all those years of living with the wives of wealthy men, she had endeavored to learn and copy both their style and manners.
At first he had thought he was doing quite well, but little did he think that the air around Melissa and her presence when she simply stood there would already give him a crushing defeat.
For a while, neither of them spoke.
Melissa had grown up in a well-to-do family. Her emotions had overwhelmed her when she first saw Nora, but now that she had calmed down, she sensed immediately that something wasn’t right.
The corners of her lips curved into a smile. She ignored Wendy and looked at Henry as she asked, “You must be my brother-in-law?”
Henry had already recovered from his surprise. The arrogance on his face was completely gone. Instead, he gave her an ingratiating smile and asked, “You are…?”.
Melissa looked down and said, “Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m an artist.”
After glossing over the subject, she said, “You don’t seem to have come at a good time, Nora. We’d better find another place to talk.”
Nora nodded. “Sure.”
She took the lead. Her voice sounded a little gravelly as she said, “Slow down.”
Angela only dared to speak again after the two of them got into the car and drove off. She asked, “Dad, Mom, who is she?”
During the emergency at the Finest Hotel the other time, Melissa hadn’t seemed her usual self because she was crying so hard from worry, so Angela didn’t recognize her now.
Wendy gritted her teeth. Then she immediately took Henry’s arm and said, “Oh, you know, artists. No wonder you’re so classy. But I hear there aren’t many artists making money these days. Instead, there are a lot of people who try to swindle others by calling themselves artists.”
Angela curved her lip. “So that’s what it is. I thought he was from a rich family because of how he acted. That makes sense, though. If Nora’s mother’s family was rich, her mother wouldn’t have been so depressed!”
Henry, however, stared at the door and seemed very distracted.
All the outsiders thought that Nora’s mother was destitute and had only managed to survive because she had married him. But in reality, she then had a business in her own name….
As he was lost in thought, Wendy spoke up and said, “Nora’s mother’s last name is Anderson, right? It’s an unusual surname in our circle. There is no distinguished family with that surname, other than the Andersons of New York.”
Her words brought Henry back to reality.
She was right. Other than the Andersons of New York, all the other businessmen with the Anderson surname were not important people.
He snorted and said, “She’s probably just acting. I’m just afraid Nora is stupid enough to let them fool her.”
Wendy smiled and said, “Okay, that’s enough, don’t we have a dinner date with the Grays tonight? Let’s get ready, lest we be late.”
Henry nodded. “Yes, that’s more important.”
Angela grumbled, “Someone already booked the VVIP room at the Finest Hotel. If not, how nice would it have been to have dinner there? Fuu-uu.”
Outside.
Nora saw a discreet black Cayenne parked there.
The car was a high-end model and its estimated domestic market value was about $700,000.
That her aunt could afford such a car? Was she really an artist?
However, she didn’t ask about it and just followed Melissa to the car. Melissa indicated to the chauffeur, “To the Finest Hotel.”
As the car started, Melissa looked at the girl next to her. Her feline eyes were downcast and she had long eyelashes. Although she was beautiful, she was unusually pale.
She sighed and said, “You must have suffered a lot all these years, Nora.”
Nora thought to herself, … Actually, it wasn’t so bad. After all, it doesn’t matter where you sleep.
When Melissa saw her quiet, she knew immediately that she didn’t want to talk about the Smiths.
The report Justin had sent them was more detailed than they could see on the surface. She felt for her niece, so she changed the subject and said,
“By the way, your uncle is still in the hospital. The reason we were able to find him was because someone helped us a lot, so your uncle wants us to invite him to dinner tonight as a thank you. Is that okay with you?”
Nora didn’t mind, so she nodded. “Okay.”
Melissa breathed a sigh of relief.
When they arrived at the Finest Hotel, Melissa said, “Don’t you have a daughter, Nora, can I meet her?”
Nora could sense that Melissa was a nice person, so she agreed. She called Mrs. Lewis and told her to take Cherry to the restaurant on the third floor.
The two went to the restaurant first, intending to have a nice chat with each other after entering the private room.
Half an hour later, the Smiths arrived just in time to see a distracted Anthony coming to pick them up. After meeting them, he said, “I hear the Andersons from New York are in the VVIP room. Let’s see if we can talk to them later.”
The New York Andersons?
An indescribable feeling suddenly came over Henry, as if he had missed something.
At the same time, in the elevator lobby on the third floor.
The presidential suite on the top floor had a dedicated elevator, while the rest of the floors used public elevators.
Ding!
Ding!
The doors of both elevators opened at the same time.
Justin, along with Pete and Chester, stepped out of the exclusive elevator to the presidential suite.
The doors of the other elevator slowly opened to reveal Cherry standing inside.
