Chapter 447 Why Does She Get All The Special Treatment
Zachary cast her a casual glance, his stride unbroken, his gaze cold and unfamiliar. "I don't remember."
Isla's expression stiffened. She quickly pressed on, "Don't you remember? We met on the flight to Sloummont, and you were sitting right next to me in first class."
"Sorry, I can't recall." Without another word or a shift in his expression, Zachary disappeared into the men's restroom.
He was just as distant now as he had been the last time.
Disappointment and frustration flickered in Isla's eyes, but she clenched her fists, refusing to give up.
She lingered outside the men's restroom for a few minutes, and as soon as Zachary emerged, drying his hands, she stepped forward to intercept him. "It's fine if you don't remember me. I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Isla Wilson." She emphasized her last name, lifting her chin ever so slightly.
Zachary halted, his brow furrowing as he studied her. After a moment of scrutiny, he said, "Oh. Now I remember you."
"Really?" Isla's face lit up with surprise and delight, though inside, her thoughts churned with disdain and boredom. Oh, sure, now he remembers. All it took was dropping my name, and suddenly, it's like the clouds parted and enlightenment struck. What a coincidence, right? And to think I almost believed he was different turns out he's just another boot-licker in disguise.
Zachary let out a light chuckle. "Of course, I remember you from the plane. Just like now, you were completely oblivious-unable to notice that I had no interest in talking to you."
Isla's expression darkened, her composure slipping. "Are you trying to insult me indirectly? Do you even know who I am?"
Zachary didn't bother entertaining her outburst. Without a word, he sidestepped her and continued on his way, leaving her standing there.
As she watched his retreating figure, Isla stomped her foot in frustration.
Fury bubbled inside her. Nobody has ever spoken to me like that! It's as if he couldn't care less that I'm a Wilson, completely ignoring my family's status!
Meanwhile, Tamara stood at a distance near the entrance to the private room, silently observing their exchange, her expression thoughtful.
When Zachary stepped into the private room, Isla promptly followed him, but as her gaze flickered with determination, she abruptly turned and made her way to the manager's office upstairs. This restaurant, a part of the Wilson family's vast business empire, ensured Isla's arrival commanded instant deference.
The manager, ever mindful of her status, greeted her with a deep bow. "Ms. Isla, what brings you here today?"
Isla settled on the plush sofa, elegantly crossing her legs. Her thoughts churned as the sting of Zachary's words lingered, darkening her mood. "Do you know the guest in Room 203?" "The guest in Room 203?" The manager blinked in confusion.
Having spent the morning buried in reports, he had no idea who had reserved the room. "I'm afraid I don't know, but I can check the surveillance footage if you'd like."
Rolling her eyes, Isla snapped, "He's a man, around six feet tall, with an Aplothian's facial features. Handsome, but I couldn't pinpoint his exact ethnicity."
She bit her lip in frustration. Both times they'd met, Zachary had spoken flawless Uprian, his accent authentic and natural, which only deepened her uncertainty about his background. One thing she was certain of, however, was that he wasn't a Fairlake native.
Earlier, Isla had caught sight of the watch on his wrist, a limited-edition luxury piece she instantly recognized. A childhood friend had once flaunted the same model, bragging about its exorbitant price.
Its presence on the man's wrist was a clear indication of his substantial wealth and Aplothian descent. If he were from Fairlake, Isla was confident she would have known of him.
The manager, noticing Isla's displeasure, hesitated before carefully stating, "I'm afraid I don't know anything about him, Ms. Isla."
With so many guests coming and going daily, it was unrealistic to expect him to recognize everyone.
Isla shot him an impatient look, her tone brooking no argument. "Check the surveillance footage. Find out who he is and report back to me immediately."
Her curiosity burned with intensity. She was determined to uncover the identity of the man who had the audacity to disregard the Wilson family name so blatantly.
"Yes, of course. I'll look into it right away," the manager assured her.
After leaving the office, Isla returned to her private room. She scanned the space thoughtfully before walking over to the window, opening it, and settling herself onto the couch nearby. From her vantage point, she had a perfect view of the door to Room 203.
Alice, seated nearby, raised an eyebrow. "Isla, why are you opening the window?"
"Just wanted some fresh air," Isla replied casually.
In the past, every man who knew her status treated her with nothing but eager deference. Isla always held herself above others, outwardly expressing her disdain for them. Yet, deep down, she thoroughly relished the taste of their flattery.
Yet, when she had mustered the courage to strike up a conversation with Zachary, not only had he dismissed her, but he had also ridiculed her after learning who she was. The humiliation was unbearable. There was no way she could let anyone find out about what had transpired earlier.
"Oh, leave it open, then."
Within minutes, Isla's eyes had wandered to the window several times.
Alice, noticing Isla's distraction, followed her gaze but saw nothing noteworthy. "What are you looking at?"
"Nothing," Isla replied curtly.
Just as the words left her mouth, the door to Room 203 swung open. Her attention sharpened as a tall, commanding figure stepped out, his posture exuding quiet confidence. He didn't bother to close the door behind him but lingered at the threshold, seemingly waiting for someone.
Alice glanced out as well, curiosity alight in her eyes. "Do you know that guy?"
Isla didn't respond. Instead, her eyes locked onto a woman who emerged from the room moments later, her figure striking a chord of familiarity.
The man took the woman's hand with a casual intimacy that spoke of familiarity, their interaction natural and fluid as if this was second nature to them. They walked away together, their conversation punctuated with easy laughter.noveldrama
Isla's hand, which rested on her lap, slowly curled into a fist. Her gaze turned cold, the spark of jealousy and frustration unmistakable. So he already has someone. No wonder he was so dismissive of me.
All of a sudden, Alice cried out, "Isn't that Fay?"
Isla froze in place, her eyes narrowing as they locked on the woman beside the man. Anger bubbled within her, her teeth clenched in silent fury.
Isla's expression darkened further. No wonder the woman's silhouette seemed familiar. It's Fay. It's her again.
Her fists tightened so hard that her knuckles turned white. A faint creaking sound escaped as her nails dug into her palms.
Ever since Fay had arrived in Atharia, she had been nothing but a thorn in Isla's side, an unyielding source of frustration and rivalry. I swear to God, I won't let her have her way!
Alice, her tone dripping with insinuation, remarked, "You know, Caesare has feelings for her. If he sees this, it'll surely crush him."
The mention of Caesare deepened Isla's resentment. Her emotions flared into a blazing storm. What's so special about Fay? Caesare has feelings for her, Ezekiel is protective of her, and now this Aplothian man is smitten with her too!
Isla felt unsettled and frustrated, with a deep sense of unfairness weighing heavily on her. Why does she get treated so well by everyone? What's she done to deserve all that special treatment?
After Isla returned home, the hotel manager promptly sent her Zachary's profile. She opened the document, her earlier frustration cooling into a sharp, calculated curiosity.
Her lips curled in mild disdain as she thought to herself. Zachary Fuller. A Clusian man and the Chairman of Fuller Group. Fuller Group? Never heard of it. Probably just some small-time company with a tiny factory.
Isla took a moment to search online.
Upon seeing the search results, she fell silent, a cold scoff forming in her heart. Fine! So what if he owns a big corporation? A company run by someone as arrogant as him is bound to underperform. I bet it's
barely scraping by, probably on the
brink of bankruptcy!
Isla found a clip of Zachary delivering a speech. She clicked on it, intending to find faults, but exited silently and moved to another video.
Yet, the more she watched, the harder it was to deceive herself.
She simply couldn't tear her gaze away, even after he treated her disrespectfully.
