Luna Aurora 15

Chapter

15

The days after Aurora and Lila's arrival were filled with quiet observation and tentative steps into the life of Cassian's pack. Aurora quickly learned that this pack was unlike anything she'd known. Wolves mingled freely regardless of rank, and decisions seemed to be made with a sense of shared purpose rather than the rigid hierarchy she had grown used to. It was a world that felt strange yet oddly comforting.

Despite the warm welcome, Aurora couldn't ignore the toll her condition was taking. The mornings were the hardest. Each day began with a wave of nausea so intense it left her gripping the edge of the bed, her breath shallow. Fatigue clung to her like a weight she couldn't shake, and even the smallest tasks left her drained.

Lila noticed the changes immediately. "Aurora," she murmured one morning as she set a cup of tea in front of her daughter. "You can't keep pushing yourself like this. The children are drawing on your strength. It's no wonder you're feeling this way-they're powerful, even now." Aurora stared at the tea, her stomach twisting at the faint steam rising from it. "What if someone notices?" she whispered. "What if they figure out what I'm hiding?"

"They won't, not unless you let them," Lila replied firmly, squeezing her hand. "But you can't let fear destroy your body. Take it one day at a time."

Aurora took her mother's advice to heart as best she could. During the day, she threw herself into simple tasks-organizing supplies, assisting with small gatherings, and avoiding any duties that required too much exertion. Cassian had assigned her these responsibilities himself, always with a polite but careful gaze that seemed to weigh her intentions.noveldrama

To her surprise, the pack members treated her with kindness rather than suspicion. Smiles and greetings met her wherever she went, and when she faltered in her tasks, someone was always quick to step in with an offer of help.

"People are noticing you," Lila remarked one morning as they prepared food for the communal kitchen. Her tone was light, but there was pride in her eyes. "You're making an impression."

Aurora hesitated, pressing a hand discreetly against her abdomen as a dull ache flared there. "I don't want to stand out," she murmured. "The more people notice me, the more questions they'll ask."

Her mother gave her a look of quiet understanding but didn't press further.

One afternoon, while sorting a shipment of supplies, Aurora felt a shadow fall over her. She looked up to see Cassian standing nearby, his arms crossed loosely over his chest.

"You've been working hard," he said casually, but his gaze was sharp.

"I'm just trying to help," Aurora replied, wiping her hands on her apron and hoping he didn't notice the faint trembling in them.
